The “Wörterbuch der Gegenwart”, edited by Bernd Scherer, Olga von Schubert and Stefan Aue (Haus der Kulturen der Welt), questions the categories and concepts of modernity in a globalized world.
The publication is structured by 12 different terms like fear, body or justice. It brings together historical and contemporary texts and artistic works by, among others, Chinua Achebe, Arjun Appadurai, Hannah Arendt, Simon Denny, Forensic Architecture, Édouard Glissant, Armin Linke, Jonas Mekas, Herta Müller, Ruth Wolf-Rehfeldt, Taiye Selasi, Hito Steyerl and Wolfgang Tillmans. The editorial concept addresses individual text and image formats and consciously deals with the expectations of a dictionary. An unfinished font family designed especially for this purpose supports the fragile and multi-perspective character of the publication. Published by Matthes & Seitz.
