May contain Artificial Flavors, Colors or Preservatives

Jenny Hasselbach’s series “May contain Artificial Flavors, Colors or Preservatives” shows not only still lifes, in which the decay of organic structures is shown in numerous experimental arrangements, but also quasi-portraits. Here the subject is denied to the viewer, begins to flicker, remains vague. Getting closer to the essentials seems impossible.

The viewer remains outside. And yet he is an uninvited witness to an uncanny dynamic between presenting and hiding, the ephemerality of a recording and the preservation of memories, it is up to the observer to find his place.

For this series, Jenny Hasselbach has worked with artificial aesthetics, flash and artificial light and color filters for the first time. The works were mainly created in the dark winter months of the first half of the year.
